Purpose

To ensure a smooth and comprehensive onboarding process for new team members on their first day.

We want to provide them with the necessary tools, information, and support to integrate into the team effectively.

1. First Day Activities

Morning Welcome

  • Greet the new team member when they come in.
  • Provide a brief tour of the office, including key areas such as restrooms, kitchen, emergency exits, and key meeting rooms.

Introduction to Team

  • Introduce the new team member to their colleagues and immediate team.
  • Schedule a lunch to welcome the new hire.

Administrative Tasks

  • Review company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure they receive their key.

Systems and Tools Orientation

  • Ensure the new team member logs into their laptop and email.
  • Provide an overview of the company’s work tools, and project management systems (e.g., Asana, Harvest).
  • Verify access to necessary files, shared drives, and other resources.

2. Initial Training and Integration

Job Role Overview

  • Review the new team member’s job description and performance expectations.
  • Discuss initial projects or tasks they will be working on.
  • Set up a meeting schedule for the first week, including training sessions, one-on-ones with key team members.

Training and Resources

  • Provide any training materials or resources needed for their role.
  • Assign a buddy who can offer guidance and support during the first few weeks.

Lunch Arrangement

  • Arrange for a team/department lunch or a casual lunch with their team to help integrate them socially (occur within the first two weeks of the new team member joining).

3. End of Day Review

Check-In

  • Schedule a brief end-of-day check-in to address any questions or concerns the new team member may have.
  • Review their first day, ensuring they feel welcomed and supported.

Plan for the Week

  • Go over the schedule for the remainder of the week.
  • Confirm any meetings, training sessions, or important tasks planned.
